Why Are All My Alexa Devices Offline?

Many Amazon customers own an Alexa , which is a smart digital assistant that can control many different devices around your home. Even though Alexa is able to work well with many different devices, sometimes it may show that your connected devices are offline. You may be wondering what causes this to happen.

There are many different reasons why your Alexa devices may be offline. The most common reason for this issue is that an app on your smartphone is out of date. However, it could also be due to an issue with the power connectivity or a spotty WIFI connection, just to name a few.

While you may not be sure of the exact reason your Alexa devices are offline at the moment, the good news is that troubleshooting this issue is very easy. Once you get to the root of the problem, you’ll be able to get your devices back online quickly. Keep reading to find out what you need to do when your Alexa devices are offline.

Check Your WIFI Connection

While fixing the issue with Alexa devices going offline is relatively easy, sometimes the cause of the problem is just as simple. Before trying to troubleshoot your devices, check to make sure you have a stable WIFI connection. There could be a problem with your internet connection or an internet outage in your service area.

If you have a stable internet connection, one thing you should consider is if you recently changed either your WIFI name or its password. This is a simple mistake that could happen to any Alexa owner . All you will need to do is update your WIFI information and the problem should be resolved.

Check Your Power Connection

Another reason why your Alexa devices may not be connecting is that they don’t have a connection to power. Check the device itself to make sure it didn’t get unplugged, or the power bar that it is attached to didn’t get turned off or unplugged from the wall. Sometimes the solution is a lot simpler than you would have thought.

If everything is plugged in properly, a quick troubleshooting method that could fix the problem (if it isn’t due to an outdated app) is to unplug the device from the power connection. Leave it unplugged for at least 30 seconds, then plug it back in and let the device reboot to see if this solves the problem.

Check The App On Your Smartphone

The most likely cause of Alexa devices going offline is that the Alexa app on your smartphone is out of date. Check to see if the app needs any updates. Many times if there is a new update available, it will solve the connection problem. However, if there is no update available, try restarting the Alexa app on your phone because there could be a glitch with the app.

You should also make sure that the phone you are using the Alexa app on is connected to the same WIFI network as the Alexa device that you are trying to control. If they are on different networks then you will not be able to get a response between the two devices.

If you have tried everything we mentioned above and the Alexa devices are still not connecting to the WIFI then you may need to uninstall the Alexa app then reinstall it. The reason your Alexa device may be offline could be due to a glitch with the software and reinstalling it could sort out the problem.

How Many Devices Are Connected To Your WIFI?

One of the reasons that your Alexa devices may be offline is that you have too many different devices using your WIFI. Most wireless routers can only handle up to 52 devices connected at a time. While that sounds like a lot, with modern technology you may have more connected than you even realize. If this is the case, your WIFI router may not be able to take on more.

However, each router is different and some modern ones can handle more devices, while other routers may not be able to handle more than 45.

Has Your Device Been Registered On Amazon?

If you have tried everything above and still can not get your Alexa devices to connect online, then you may need to try this one last trick.

Alexa devices need to be registered in order to work. When you order the Alexa device online, it will then be registered to your Amazon account. When the device isn’t appearing on your Alexa app you may need to log into your Amazon account to deregister the device and then re-register it again.

Some people who have sold their Alexa devices didn’t realize they needed to go onto their Amazon account to deregister it. In the event that you bought a secondhand Alexa and believe the original owner may have forgotten to do this step, you can contact Amazon customer support to have them deregister the device.

Ask For Help

Luckily, Amazon customer support has a lot of resources to help get the problem solved.
