How to Connect WiZ Lights to Alexa

One of the best things about Alexa and her line of Echo devices is the ability to control other devices using voice controls. There are a wide variety of things Alexa is able to connect to, ranging from televisions, computers, phones, and even lights. There are multiple brands of lights, but today, we are going to talk about WiZ Lights, and how you can connect Alexa to them.

After you set up your WiZ Lights with the WiZ app, open that app to get to the Integrations menu. This can be found in the WiZ app’s Settings menu. Select Alexa in that menu, and then sign in to your Amazon.com account.

But is there any other way to get it set up with Alexa?

How to Connect WiZ Lights to Alexa

Make sure that your WiZ Lights, Echo device, and the device using the Alexa app are connected to the same Wi-Fi router. If not, you may struggle to get these steps to work properly, depending on which method you use. Additionally, you need to have an Amazon.com account, and to use the Alexa app, that Amazon.com account needs to be signed into it.

Connect through the WiZ app using Alexa integration

This is the primary method of connecting WiZ Lights to Alexa. First, open the WiZ app, and navigate to Settings, and select the Integrations option. In the Integration list, you will see multiple devices, including Alexa. Select that, and then tap the Link my account option. Sign in to your Amazon.com account and, if needed, enter all information required as part of two-factor authentication. The account will be linked, and you can click Finish.

Enable the WiZ skill in the Alexa app

To enable the WiZ skill for use with your Echo device, there are multiple avenues. The first, and simplest, is to simply use the Alexa app on your phone or tablet. Tap the Menu icon in the top-left corner of the screen (represented by three horizontal lines), and then tap Skills & Games. Next, tap the Search icon (represented by a magnifying glass), and search for the WiZ skill. Select it, and then push the Enable to Use option. You can also enable the WiZ skill on the Alexa website on your computer or a browser on a phone or tablet, using similar methods.

Enable the WiZ skill on Amazon.com

If you do not want to enable the skill using the Alexa app or website, the other option would be to add it through Amazon.com. So long as you are signed in to Amazon.com with the same account you use for your Echo devices, adding the skill this way will have the same effect. You can search for the WiZ skill on a search engine like Google, or you can search on Amazon.com itself. Select the WiZ skill when you see it in the search results, and click the Enable button.

Can you use Alexa to control WiZ Lights without an Echo device?

While it would be convenient to be able to use Alexa to control your WiZ Lights through a phone, computer, tablet, or television, it is unfortunately not possible to do so. The only way you can use Alexa to control them is through Echo devices, such as the Amazon Echo, Amazon Echo Dot, and Amazon Echo Show.

Why aren’t the WiZ Lights and Alexa connecting?

If your WiZ Lights are not able to connect to your Echo device, the first thing you should do is make sure that both devices are powered on. Once you have verified that, make sure that nothing is going wrong with your Internet connection, and that Alexa is able to access it.

If your Alexa cannot connect to the Internet, it will usually respond to voice commands by saying that she is having trouble connecting right now. To check to see if your Internet connection is giving you problems, the best way to do that is to test it on other devices besides your Alexa. For example, if you are unable to get on the Internet on your computer, or your phone is only able to connect through data, this may suggest that your Internet connection is having problems.

To reset your Internet connection, go to your Wi-Fi router and unplug it from the power source. Wait 15 seconds, and then plug it back in. This is not a surefire method to fix a problematic Internet connection, but it may work. Another option may be to close the gap between your Echo device and the Wi-Fi router. A Wi-Fi router can only reach so far, and the more obstacles (especially metal ones) between the two devices, the worse the connection will be.

Another method would be to plug a device into your router to test whether it has Internet capabilities at the moment. You can use any device with an Ethernet port. If there is no Internet connectivity, this means that either the device is broken, or the Internet is down. To fix a broken device, contact your Internet service provider (ISP). If the Internet is down, let your ISP know, and they may be able to tell you when it will be coming back online.

If you changed your Internet connection’s name or password, your Echo device may not be able to connect. To fix this, do the same steps you did to get it connected to the Internet in the first place, and enter the new router name/password.

The WiZ Lights are not properly connected to the WiZ app

If your WiZ Lights have not been properly connected to the corresponding app, the lights will not be able to work with the Alexa app either. With the WiZ light in the bulb and the light socket receiving power. If it has not been paired once before, it will be flashing white or blue the first time it’s been turned on. Keep it close to the Wi-Fi router (150 feet at most). Launch the WiZ app, select Add room, and then select the Room type or name the room. Next, tap Add a device, and then select Light. Enter the Wi-Fi password, push Continue, and then push Start. Finally, when all the lights you want to connect appear, click Finish.
