How to Disconnect iPhone from Apple TV
There are multiple methods you can use to disconnect your iPhone from your Apple TV, with some requiring that you go through the pairing process all over again. Additionally, your Apple TV may not be compatible with this feature, so check to see if yours is. Also ensure that both the iPhone and the Apple TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Disconnect by going to the Apple TV’s Settings section
This process will cause your iPhone to be forgotten by the Apple TV, so do not take this step unless you do not intend to reconnect it, as the process could be tedious. To do this, go to your Apple TV’s Settings section, select Remote and Devices, and then select Remote App and Devices. If you have an iPhone connected to your Apple TV, you will see it in the list of devices. Select it, and then select Unpair Device. This method allows you to disconnect the iPhone from the Apple TV from the iPhone itself, using its AirPlay & Handoff functionality. To pull this off, open the Settings app on the iPhone, and then scroll down until you find General. Select that, and then tap Airplay & Handoff. In this section, change the Automatically AirPlay to TVs option to Never.
Stop the iPhone from doing screen mirroring on your Apple TV
Screen mirroring allows you to stream your iPhone to your Apple TV, and vice versa. To disable this feature, you once again need to use the iPhone. On the iPhone, swipe down to show the Control Panel. You will see a Screen Mirroring button. When you press this, you will see the option to Stop Mirroring to stop the iPhone from mirroring the Apple TV.
How to connect the iPhone to Apple TV?
If you want to connect your iPhone back to Apple TV, that process is relatively simple, especially if you have set it up once already. As discussed above, there are multiple ways to connect your iPhone to your Apple TV. To set Screen Mirroring up, open the Control Center. You can do this by swiping down from the upper-right corner of an iPhone X or later, or swiping up from the bottom edge of the screen on an iPhone 8 or earlier. Tap Screen Mirroring, and select Apple TV when given the option. You may need to enter a passcode on the Apple TV.
