How to Check PS5 Controller Battery on PC

The PS5 controller, also known as the DualSense controller, is arguably one of the best controllers that we have seen so far, and as such, people are more than excited to be able to use it on as many devices as they possibly can. The PS5 controller can be used with a wide variety of devices, including the PC. Heck, you can even use it on a Nintendo Switch and an Xbox Series X with the appropriate adapter. When using your PS5 controller with your PC, there are a number of things you can do with your PS5 controller. But how do you check your PS5 controller’s battery on your PC?

When using your PS5 controller on a PC, the best thing to do is install the DS4Windows program. Not only can this help you make the controller work with more games more easily, and it will show various details, including the percentage of battery life remaining.

But what are the other options you can take to see the remaining battery life of your PS5 controller?

How to Check PS5 Controller Battery on PC:

There are multiple ways that you can check the battery level of your PS5 controller while using it on a PC, with the two most common methods being to use either DS4Windows or Steam. To get your PS5 controller set up with your PC in the first place, there are two methods you can take. The first is to use a USB cable. The PS5 controller uses a USB-C port, meaning that you either have to use a USB-C cable or use an adapter that allows for the use of a USB Type-A cable. Once the controller is connected to your USB port, you will hear a beep indicating that it has connected.

The next option is to connect it to your computer using Bluetooth capabilities. If your computer does not have Bluetooth, however, you will have to purchase a Bluetooth adapter that plugs into a USB port. In doing so, the computer will be fully featured for Bluetooth capabilities. To use Bluetooth, you need to make sure that Bluetooth is enabled and that Airplane mode is disabled. To do this, open the action center by clicking on the message box in the bottom-right corner of the taskbar. Here, make sure that the Bluetooth option is set to On by clicking on it, and that Airplane mode is set to Off.

Next, right-click on the Bluetooth option, and select Go to Settings. From here, select Add Bluetooth or other device. Put your PS5 controller in pairing mode by holding the PS button on the middle of the controller for a few seconds. The controller should appear in the list of Bluetooth items. Select this, and your PS5 controller should now be paired to your PC.

Use DS4Windows to check the PS5 controller’s battery level

DS4Windows is a program that is popular among people who use the PS3, PS4, or PS4 controller with their PC. While you can use these controllers to an extent just by connecting them to your PC using a USB cable or Bluetooth, DS4Windows adds a lot of capabilities to your PC play experience, such as the battery indicator included with DS4Windows.

To get the DS4Windows program set up, you have to first download it from the DS4Windows website. This program is only compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11, so users of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 will be left high and dry. It may then prompt you to install certain drivers onto your computer. If you have set up your PS5 controller and DS4Windows appropriately, the controller should then appear within the list of controllers.

On DS4Windows, you will see a variety of details next to the controller you have paired with your computer. This includes Bluetooth, profile, and, of course, battery. Under the battery tab, it will show the percent of battery life remaining.

Use Steam to check the PS5 controller’s battery level

Steam is arguably the most convenient way to check your PS5 controller’s battery level, mainly because most people who are playing video games on PC already have Steam. Thus, you do not have to actually download an extra program to pull this off. To set up your PS5 controller with Steam, make sure that the PS5 controller is set up with your computer first. Open Steam, and select the drop-down Steam menu. Here, select Settings, and select the Control option in the sidebar.

Next, select General Controller Settings. This will show a list of controller options, including PlayStation Configuration Support. Check the box next to it (and any boxes you wish to check for that matter). You will also see any compatible controllers listed, which will include the PS5 controller you’ve connected to. You will now be able to check the battery level by looking at the top-right corner of the screen to see the indicator.

Does the PS5 controller work as well on the PC as it does on PS5?

While a number of the features used on the PS5 console are functional when you are using it on a PC, there are some things that do not work on the PC like they do on the PS5. For example, one of the things about the PS5 controller is that it uses haptic feedback, which may not be able to work on your PC.

Why is my PS5 controller not charging on my PC?

Sometimes, when you have your PS5 controller hooked up to your PC, it may not be charging – or, at the very least, it appears to not be charging. One reason for this is because the port you have the controller plugged into is charging the PS5 controller so slowly that the controller is being drained faster than it can actually charge. You may be able to resolve this issue by unplugging the controller from the USB port and plugging it back in. Alternatively, you can plug it into a wall charger if your computer is charging it too slowly.
