How to Connect Sony Headphones to LG TV

It may not be a frequent occurrence, but you might find that you want to use your headphones while streaming or gaming on your TV. Luckily, most LG TVs allow you to pair your Bluetooth headphones with them so you can enjoy whatever you’re streaming or playing without having to lower the volume.

There are two ways to connect Sony headphones to an LG TV: through Bluetooth or with a wired connection that fits into a 3.5 mm audio jack. Not all TVs have an audio jack, especially if they are a newer model with Bluetooth instead, so make sure you check before settling on one method.

Keep reading to learn how to pair your Sony headphones with your LG TV if it allows Bluetooth, how to use an audio jack instead if that’s your preferred option, and other tips you will need to know to connect your headphones to a TV.

How to Pair Headphones with an LG TV

There are a couple of ways to connect your headphones to your LG TV. You can either use a magic remote or any other remote that allows you to navigate the settings.

To connect using a magic remote:

  1. Hold down the “Microphone” button and say “Bluetooth headphones,” then let go of the button.
  2. A menu will open called “Bluetooth Device.” Turn on your headphones and put them into pairing mode.
  3. Your headphones should pair automatically, and you will see them appear on the screen as one of your connected devices.

To connect with any other remote:

  1. Press the gear button on your remote, then navigate to the three dots on the left side of your TV screen to open “All Settings.”
  2. Select “Sound” then “Sound Out.”
  3. Click “Use Wireless Speaker.”
  4. Next to the “Bluetooth Device” option, you will see three dots that you should click on.
  5. Turn on your headphones and put them into pairing mode. You will see them appear on the screen as one of your connected devices.
  6. Select your headphones, and they will pair automatically.

If you are having difficulties pairing your headphones, it may be because you have too many devices trying to connect to your TV with headphones, or your headphones are already connecting to too many devices. Most headphones limit the number of devices they are pairing with.

Why Won’t Your Sony Headphones Connect to Bluetooth?

If your headphones aren’t connecting, here are a few things to consider t troubleshoot the problem.

  • Your headphones are pairing with too many devices. Most devices have a limit of some kind, so you should check how many devices your headphones are connecting with before losing hope.
  • Move your headphones closer to your TV. There might be something interfering with the signal between the two devices so bringing your headphones closer while pairing may help.
  • Try pairing with another Bluetooth device. If your headphones connect fine to another device, then your TV is the problem. If they aren’t pairing, you know the problem is with the headphones themselves.

Can You Connect Through a Headphone Jack on Your TV?

If you are having issues connecting through Bluetooth or want to use Sony headphones that don’t have Bluetooth, you can always check if your LG TV has an audio jack. A standard audio jack is 3.5 mm and will work with most wide headphones or earbuds. Connecting using wired headphones is as simple as plugging them in.

While a wired connection might be the easiest and quickest way to connect your headphones to your TV, it’s also the most inconvenient because unless you are sitting right in front of your TV, you’re going to need a pretty long cable.

Can You Use a Bluetooth Transmitter on an LG TV?

If your LG TV doesn’t come with built-in Bluetooth, but you don’t want to struggle with a cable to connect your Sony headphones, then you can get a Bluetooth transmitter to allow you to connect Bluetooth devices to your TV. It can also help extend the Bluetooth range and enable you to connect more Bluetooth devices at once.

To set up your Bluetooth adaptor and connect your headphones:

  1. Plug in your Bluetooth adaptor to power.
  2. Connect the adaptor to your TV. You will need to check your adaptor’s manual to see how it connects but most connect through a headphones jack or RCA audio output.
  3. Turn on your headphone and put them into pairing mode. For most Sony headphones, you can put them into pairing mode by pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds.
  4. Put your Bluetooth adaptor into pairing mode as well. Remember that you can always check the user’s manual for help on doing this for your specific model.
  5. Keep your headphones close to your adaptor until they connect. How your device signals the pairing is complete will depend on the model, but most Sony headphones indicate pairing is complete when the indicator light stops blinking.
  6. Go to the Sound Settings on your LG TV to ensure that your headphones are the output device.
    5. Select your headphones from the list that appears.

Keep in mind that most Bluetooth adaptors have a limit to the number of devices you can pair with them at once, so you might need to unpair your headphones when you aren’t using them if you want to use Bluetooth speakers or other devices.

Final Thoughts

Connecting your headphones to your LG TV can be as easy as plugging them into the audio jack, if it has one, or pairing them with your TV’s Bluetooth. You can even opt to get a Bluetooth adaptor if your TV is older and doesn’t have built-in Bluetooth, so you don’t have to struggle with cables, or you want to connect more devices since most Bluetooth devices have a limit.
