Can Airpods Be Charged in Another Case? Yes, and here’s how

Airpods rely on their case for most of their functionality, such as pairing your device as well as charging your case. Because of this, many users fear losing or damaging their case. However, is it possible to use a different case for simple tasks such as charging your Airpods?

Can Airpods Be Charged in Another Case?

Yes, your Airpods can be charged on a different case. All you would need to do is place your Airpods in the new case, and they will begin to charge.

This is assuming that you are charging using a compatible case. For example, an Airpod Pro case will not be able to charge an Airpod Gen 3.

Additionally, you may notice that as soon as you place your Airpods in the case, your Source device (Phone, tablet…etc) may not recognize your device. This is because while the Airpods are able to charge in the case, in order to connect your Airpods to your device, you will need to first pair your Airpods to that particular charging case.

Now, if this is a friend’s case that you’re borrowing to charge your device, then this is probably something you don’t want to do; however, if you’ve purchased a new case and would like to connect it to your Airpods, here’s how to do it.

Connecting Your Airpods To a Different Case

Apple has made it possible to connect your Airpods to any charging case & the setup process is incredibly simple.

  1. Place both Airpods in the new case.
  2. Open the lid and wait for the status lights to flash amber.
  3. Press & hold the setup button on the back of the case for a few seconds.
  4. Once the status light flashes, open your case in front of your phone.
  5. A setup animation will appear. Select Connect > Done.

And that’s it! You will now be able to connect & charge your Airpods to any case that easily.

There are several benefits to being able to connect your Airpods to different cases. First of all, if you have lost or damaged your Airpods charging case, then this will allow you to get a replacement charging case for your existing AirPods & have it set up quickly & easily. Secondly, it allows you to charge your Airpods with your friends or family’s charging case if you forgot your charging case or if it’s out of charge. Additionally, you will be able to purchase several charging cases allowing you to always keep your Airpods topped off when out and about.

Can You Charge Your Airpods With a Non-Apple Charging case?

Several Non-Apple charging cases in the market do, in fact, work; however, these charging cases vary in the amount of power they provide. Some are designed with a faster wattage than the original Airpods case, whereas others are slower. Because of this, there is a possibility that it can have an impact on your battery’s overall life span. This is why it’s best to just stick with Apple-certified cases.

Can You Charge Airpods Without a Case?

No, unfortunately, as of yet, there is no way you can charge your AirPods on their own without a case. The only solution is to use another compatible charging case.

How Do You Know if Your AirPods Case is Charging?

You will be able to tell if your Airpods are charging by looking at the light indicator when opening the Airpods case lid. An amber light indicates that your Airpods still require additional charge, whereas a green status light indicates your Airpods are fully charged.
