Why Does Blink Camera Say It’s Busy?

Did you recently check on your Blink home security camera and noticed it was busy? There are a few different reasons why that error could happen. If you want to troubleshoot your camera, the steps are straightforward to follow and get your security device up and running again.

The busy error message pops up when your camera has issues with recording. It could be due to connectivity problems, or you’re attempting to access the live feed while it’s recording motion. However, a few quick actions on your part will resolve the issue.

The camera may struggle to present you with footage during some conditions. You must know what they are since they impact your security device.

Why Your Blink Camera is “Busy”

You’re most likely to get the “camera is busy” error when trying to access the live stream. When this happens, it means your camera is probably recording footage, which prevents you from seeing the live stream.

Your security camera will automatically start recording when it detects motion. This message will disappear as soon as the camera finishes capturing what’s happening outside. The “busy” message prevents the device from missing the action since it can’t record when a user is watching the stream.

If something were to happen while viewing the stream, there would be no recording of the events. The camera will tell you it’s busy to prevent the event from being lost as soon as it starts capturing footage.

Fix Motion Recording

However, you may want to troubleshoot this issue. After the camera triggers due to movement, it will have to wait before it can record again. This factor can cause the camera to miss new and more important events.

To fix this issue, follow these quick steps:

  1. Go into your camera’s settings.
  1. Find the “retrigger time” section.
  1. Move the slider down to 10 seconds and confirm the changes.

Following this process lowers the amount of time it takes for the camera to start recording another event. The lower you set the “retrigger time,” the more footage the camera can record in a smaller amount of time.

Try a Factory Reset

Suppose you or another user adjusted all of your settings, and you want to restore them to default. In that case, you can try a factory reset. This option returns your camera to its original state. You can use this method when someone else made adjustments to your settings, or you can’t figure out the default anymore.

Start by removing the device from your Blink App, then hold down the button on your Sync Module until it turns red. From there, you can set up your system like it’s brand new.

Why is My Blink Not Connecting to Wi-Fi?

If fixing the retrigger settings doesn’t get rid of the “camera is busy” message, it could have connectivity issues instead. Luckily, these problems are easy to fix.

Fix the Sync Module

Your Blink camera uses a Sync Module to connect with the network. If your device isn’t connecting to it properly, it might tell you that it’s “busy.” Here is how you can troubleshoot your Sync Module:

  1. Check the signal strength on your Blink camera. It should receive three bars of Wi-Fi and three bars for the Sync Module connection.
  1. If you don’t have three bars for each, make sure to move your camera close to the Sync Module. You want to set it where it receives a good connection.

If the issue continues, you will want to reset your internet router. To do this, simply unplug your router for a few minutes. Plug it back in and wait for your devices to reconnect. Now, you can start with the above step one again.

If that still doesn’t work, you’ll want to try resetting your camera and the Sync Module next.

How to Reset a Blink Sync Module

Resetting your Blink camera can be a bit of a hassle. Start by holding down the button on the Sync Module. You can stop pressing it in once it turns red- this indicates that the Blink camera’s system was completely reset.

You will need to reinstall your Sync Module back to your Blink App to run it again. This process would be the same as when you set it up for the first time. It should fix the “camera is busy” error for a reasonable amount of time.

How Do I Power Cycle My Blink Camera?

Power cycling your Blink camera will help it reset without having to remove it from the Sync Module’s system- it’s a much easier method. All you need to do is follow the below steps:

  1. Unplug your device or remove the batteries from the back.
  1. Wait ten seconds before plugging the device back in or adding the batteries back.
  1. Allow the device time to power back up and reconnect.
  1. Check that the camera has connected to the Sync Module.

This method should allow your camera to reconnect, which eliminates the “camera is busy” message. You can think of power cycling as a “soft reset” since nothing needs reinstallation- while removing the camera’s data from the Sync Module is a “hard reset.”

Why Does My Blink Camera Keep Going Offline?

There are a couple of reasons why your Blink camera keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi. Two of the most common issues are:

  • The distance between the camera, Sync Module, and the router is too far
  • There are objects between the Sync Module and the camera systems
  • The power at your home recently went out

Once you fix those issues, the camera should be able to stay online without disconnecting. If the power went out, you would likely need to reset the camera completely. Otherwise, it will continue having connectivity issues.

Final Thoughts

It’s frustrating when your Blink camera constantly says that it’s busy. However, this issue comes from one of two things. The camera is currently recording footage and can’t show you the live stream or connectivity issues. Both of these problems are simple to fix.
