There are a lot of Internet providers out there of varying quality, and Xfinity is arguably one of the best options. Xfinity offers three services: Internet, cable TV, and phone, and you can get a bundle of either two or three of these services (which is a better deal than buying the services separately). You can connect a variety of devices to your Xfinity Internet services, and your PlayStation 4 is no exception to this. But how do you connect PS4 to Xfinity?
Thankfully, connecting your PS4 to Xfinity is a fairly simple and quick process. All you need to do is navigate to the ‘Network Settings’ section on your PS4, and search for available networks. When you see your Xfinity Wi-Fi connection, select that, and input the login credentials when prompted. Once you have set this up, you will be given the option to test your Internet connection. If everything is working fine, the connection test should be a success, and you will then be able to connect to Xfinity with PS4.
But what happens if your PS4 cannot connect to Xfinity? And is Xfinity a better choice for Internet capabilities on the PS4 than other Internet services?
How to Connect PS4 to Xfinity
Connecting your PlayStation 4 to Xfinity is a simple process, only requiring you to navigate to Network Settings on your PS4. From here, choose to set up your Internet connection, choose Wi-Fi, and select Easy. Next, begin a search for available networks, and select the name of your Xfinity Wi-Fi connection. After a brief setup, you will be prompted to test your Internet connection. If the test is successful, you should be able to use all of the normal Internet functions of the PlayStation 4, though users who do not have the PlayStation Plus subscription service will still have some limitations, so remember that.
The best way to get the most out of your Internet connection, however, is to use an Ethernet cable to connect your PS4 to a router. Once you have connected your PS4 to your router with the cable, go into Network Settings and set up your Internet connection. After this, select ‘Use LAN Cable’, and then choose ‘Easy’. This will automatically set up your Internet connection, so long as your Xfinity Wi-Fi connection is functioning properly. For both of these connections, you can select Custom instead of Easy, though Easy is recommended for most users, as nine times out of 10, this will be enough for you to get connected.
Why isn’t my PS4 connecting to Xfinity?
If your PS4 is unable to connect to your Xfinity Wi-Fi connection, this may indicate that there is something wrong with either the PS4 or your Wi-Fi connection. If the problem is to do with your PS4, there may be a malfunction with the device that will need to be fixed by Sony. If you’re having connection issues with your Xfinity Wi-Fi, however, you can check to see how the connection is doing on other devices as well. If you cannot connect on other devices as well, this indicates that something is wrong with your Wi-Fi connection.
The first thing to do to repair issues with your Wi-Fi connection is to unplug your modem and router. Once you’ve done this, wait 30 seconds, and then plug both in. While this is not a guaranteed fix, it does at least have some likelihood of success.
Why is the connection to Xfinity so slow on PS4?
If your PS4 is having trouble with slow connection speeds, there is a solid chance that your Internet speeds in particular is struggling. There are a variety of reasons why this might be the case, but one of the most common reasons is because too many devices are using the Internet at once. More and more devices have Internet capabilities, so your Internet connection is going to be expected to handle more of a load at once. To improve connection speed, turn off devices that are currently using Wi-Fi that you are not using at the time.
Why can’t I do some things on my PS4 online?
The likely reason why certain features on the PS4 are limited while others are not is because Sony has a paid subscription, ensuring that for most games, you need to subscribe in order to actually play them online. This online service is called PlayStation Plus (also called PlayStation+), and there are multiple tiers of PlayStation Plus, depending on both the number of features you want and how long you want the service.
For the standard PlayStation Plus experience, called PlayStation the pricing model is $9.99 for one month, $24.99 for three months, and $59.99 for a year. However, if you want to have a different tier, you can either select the Extra or Premium tiers. The Extra tier is $14.99 for one month, $39.99 for three months, and $99.99 for a year, while the Premium tier is $17.99 per month, $49.99 for three months, and $119.99 for a year.
The Extra tier includes a catalog of hundreds of games for both PS4 and PS5, from both Sony and third-party developers. The Premium tier, meanwhile, includes these PS4 and PS5 games, but in addition, comes with downloadable and streamable PS1, PS2, PS3, and PlayStation Portable games. You do not own these games, however, so once your subscription lapses, you also lose access to those games. PlayStation Plus also comes with discounts exclusive to these users.
However, while most games require a paid subscription, there are some games that allow PS4 users to play without PlayStation Plus. These include both free games and paid ones. For example, one of the biggest games out there, Fortnite, is not only a free-to-play game, but can also be played without a subscription fee. Other games you can play online on PS4 without having PlayStation Plus include Genshin Impact, Final Fantasy XIV, and Rocket League.
