Gamers will know the importance of a good gaming chair. When you sit in your chair for 12 hours straight in one day, you want to make sure it is comfortable and if you get tired, you can have a nap on them.

They are an important element of a gamer’s set-up. But, every gamer will need to choose the one that is most fitting for their requirements. Such as, if you need one on casters or a static base, if you want to have a quick power nap on them or not, even things like if you want to experience surround sound while playing.

Gaming chairs are specifically designed for gamers and their needs. Comfort is the number one priority when choosing the perfect chair. As gaming has become a popular activity or even a career, companies now like to design chairs with a bit of extra.

The best type of gaming chairs for sleeping

The best chairs to get are the ones that support your spine and provide cushioning in the back. It is better to get one that can recline so you can elevate your legs without needing a footstool.

Or, you can get gaming chairs that fully recline. The best chairs are the ones that can recline, or at least have an adjustable backrest, so you can get as comfortable as possible when having a nap.

Is sleeping upright in a gaming chair healthy?

No doubt these chairs sound luxurious, and you are probably looking to sleep on them once in a while. So, yes, you can sleep on them, but it might not be the best thing.

If you have an upright chair that doesn’t lay back completely flat, then don’t worry. Sleeping upright doesn’t affect your health in any way. As long as you position yourself correctly where you feel comfortable, there is no harm in sleeping upright.

What’s the best position for sleeping in a gaming chair?

Gaming chairs are one of the most comfortable places to sleep if you are not a fidgety person. Most of them are now meant for sleeping (or napping if you like). It is literally now a unique selling point; it is important for hard-core gamers!

You can sleep in your chair by just laying back and resting your arms on the armrest. Make sure to adjust the chair if needed. If you want to lay back a little bit, adjust the backrest and if you want to stretch your legs out more, adjust the height of the chair.

The best way to sleep is to get a footstool. You want to elevate your legs to promote circulation while you are asleep. If you want to feel extra comfortable, get more pillows and blankets.

If you don’t have a pillow to put under your head, you can use your arms. I personally like this position and prefer stretching my arms upwards due to my shoulder injury. It allows me to stretch it out while having a rest.

Alternatively, you can swap your gaming chair out for ones that can be set completely flat, or even RECLINER ones!! Yes, you can get recliner gaming chairs.

Is sleeping on a gaming chair bad for your posture?

Bad posture comes with health consequences, and it will probably take lots of physiotherapy sessions to adjust posture issues.

As I said, my shoulder is injured and I am having to go to physiotherapy to correct my posture because before getting a gaming chair, I slouched forward to my computer constantly.

It doesn’t help if you sleep in your chair constantly. It will leave your back sore and can develop further problems. And, you will have to deal with them for a long time, if not the rest of your life. So, don’t sleep in your gaming chair for hours.

But sitting on a gaming chair can actually help with posture.

How can a gaming chair help with my posture?

The key is to use them correctly. When you sit in a gaming chair, the way it’s laid out helps you to maintain proper form. Your body is trained to align itself into the correct posture for sitting.

It might feel uncomfortable at first when you first get a gaming chair because your body might not be used to sitting in the correct position, so your muscles need time to adjust.

But, once your body is used to it, the pain will reduce. In turn, it will strengthen your core and back. If your body is aligned properly, it will be more comfortable in the long run. It will have fewer issues and more energy.

To sit on them properly, you need to distribute your body weight evenly. Make sure the height of the chair allows your knees to be bent at the right angle. Keep your feet flat on the ground and as close to the desk as possible. Let your shoulders rest on the comfortable armrest and relax.

To summarise, you can sleep in your gaming chair, but it is not recommended for a longer period because it can cause posture issues and back pain. Now, this doesn’t mean gaming chairs are just bad for posture, because sitting on them can actually help, it just means that you will also need a bed in your room, to get proper rest.
