Can PS4 & PS5 Connect To Bluetooth Speakers? (Quick Hack)

If you own a great pair of Bluetooth speakers, then you’ve probably wondered whether or not it can connect to your PS4 or PS5 console.

The PS4 & PS5 don’t natively support Bluetooth speakers. However, you will still be able to connect your Bluetooth speakers to your Console either by using the Remote Play app, an audio cable, or a Bluetooth adapter.

We’ll now walk you through three different methods for connecting your Bluetooth speakers to your PS4 or PS% console. Let’s dive in!

How To Connect PS4 To Bluetooth Speakers

There are a few different ways to connect your Bluetooth speakers to your PS4 or PS5 console. Each has its own pros & cons. The remote play app method allows you to connect to your device without the need for a Bluetooth adapter or an audio cable, so it’s completely free; however, it does involve streaming your Playstation audio to a separate device (Phone, PC..etc.).

Connecting via the audio cable is the quickest and simplest method; however, your Bluetooth speakers will need to be plugged in, so it will need an Audio jack (Most speakers do) & you won’t be able to use it wirelessly.

Last but not least is the Bluetooth adapter/transmitter method; you will need to purchase an adapter or transmitter in order to connect to your device; you will need to ensure that the transmitter is compatible with your Console & device. Let’s take a look at each method step by step.

Remote Play App

The Remote Play app will allow you to stream audio from your PS4/PS5 to your connected device (your Phone, PC…etc.)

The only caveat to this is your PS4 & PS5 can only connect to one Bluetooth device at once. This means you won’t be able to connect your controller to your Console directly. There are two solutions to this. The first is to simply connect your controller to your phone/PC.

The second method is to create a second account to connect to your speakers on your Phone/PC on the Remote Play app, then on your Playstation, select your main account and on select “start” on your device Phone/PC to connect and that’s it. Here’s the step by step instructions for both methods:

To Connect To your Phone:

  • On your PS4, go to Settings -> Remote Play Connection Settings -> Ensure Remote Play is Toggled on
  • First, you’ll want to download the PS4 Remote Play app on your phone on the Google Play Store or App Store.
  • Log in to the remote play app with a second account to keep the controller connected to your Console. Or alternatively, you can log in to the same account as logged in to your PS4 Console if you would like to connect your controller to your phone rather than your Console.
  • If you are using the second account method, connect your Speakers to your Phone by going to your Phone’s Bluetooth list and connecting it to your Speakers. If you’re opting for the second method (using one account on both devices), then simply connect your controller to your phone via Bluetooth.
  • Now on your PS4 Console, select your main account, and on your Phone, remote play app, select “start.”
  • It will automatically start connecting to your PS4 Console. (if it takes too long or is not connecting, you select the Pair manually option and follow the instructions on the screen.)

That’s it! Your PS4 will now stream audio from your phone, allowing you to connect it to your speakers.

To Connect To Your PC:

  1. On your PS4 go to Settings -> Remote Play Connection Settings -> Ensure Remote Play is Toggled on -> Link Device
  2. Install remote play on your PC
  3. Log in to the remote play app with a second account to keep the controller connected to your Console. Or alternatively, you can log in to the same account as logged in to your PS4 Console if you would like to connect your controller to your phone/pc rather than your Console.
  4. If you are using the second account method, connect your Speakers to your PC on your second account by going to your Pc’s Bluetooth list and connecting your device. If you’re opting for the second method (using one account on both devices), then simply connect your controller to your PC via Bluetooth or via the charging cable.
  5. Now on your PS4 Console, select your main account and on your PC remote play app, select “start.”
  6. It will automatically start connecting to your PS4 Console. (if it takes too long or is not connecting, you select the Pair manually option and follow the instructions on the screen.)

And that’s it! You should now be able to use your Bluetooth speakers with your PS4 Console by streaming the audio from your PC.

Using an Audio Cable

The second method is to use an audio cable; most speakers are equipped with an audio output, so all you would need to do is connect to plug in an audio cable to your PS4/PS5 controller and into your Speakers. The only issue with his method is that you won’t be able to use the Speakers wirelessly; however, it’s the simplest method. Here’s how to do it:

  • Plugin your Audio cable into your PS4/PS5 audio jack
  • then go to Settings -> Devices -> Audio Devices -> Output Devices -> Headphones Connected To Controller
  • Then go to Output to Headphones -> select All Audio

Using a Bluetooth Adapter

An alternative approach is by using a Bluetooth adapter. It’s important to note that not all adapters are compatible with your Playstation console or Bluetooth device. So it’s important to ensure you purchase a compatible adapter. There are different types of adapters you can use to connect to your device:

  • Bluetooth transmitter With Optical Plug (PS4 Only)
  • USB Adapter
  • USB-C Adapter
  • AUX Adapter

Using a Bluetooth Transmitter With Optical Plug (PS4 ONLY)

(this method will work on only work on PS4 Pro and first-gen PS4’s but not on the PS4 slim & PS5 since both Consoles are not equipped with an optical output port)

First, you will need a Bluetooth transmitter with an optical plug. Here’s how to connect it to your device:

  • Plug in your optical port into your PS4 & the provided USB cable into the PS4’s USB port
  • Turn on your PS4 Console
  • Turn on your Bluetooth speaker & put it on pairing mode
  • ensure your transmitter is on pairing mode
  • once both devices are on pairing mode, they will automatically pair to one another.

And that’s it! You should now be able to listen to your PS4 audio on your speakers!

Using a USB Adapter:

The following method involves using a USB adapter; when purchasing a USB adapter, always ensure you purchase one that is compatible with your device and your Console.

  • Plug in your USB adapter into the PS4/PS5’s USB port
  • Put your Speakers on pairing mode.
  • On your PS console go to Settings -> Bluetooth Accessories -> Accessories Found -> Select your USB adapter -> Set it as Default Audio Device
  • Put your Speakers on pairing mode & initiate pairing.
  • Once your device is paired, go to Settings -> Sound Settings -> Audio Output -> Output Device -> Select your Speakers.

Using a USB-C Adapter

The next method is by using a USB-C adapter; again, always ensure the adapter you purchase is compatible with your Console and device. Here’s how to connect your Speaker to your PS4/PS5 with a USB-C Adapter:

  • Inset your USB-C adapter into your PS4/PS5’s USB-C port
  • on your Playstation console, go to Settings -> Bluetooth Accessories -> Select your device as Default Audio Device
  • Put your Speakers into pairing mode & pair them to your USB-C adapter.
  • Now set your speakers to your console’s default audio. To do this, go to Settings -> Sound Settings -> Audio Output -> Output Device -> Select your Bluetooth Speaker.
