One of those reasons is because of Disney’s expansion of its Marvel catalog recently. But what does that mean for Deadpool on the service?
Whether you are able to watch Deadpool, as well as other R-rated content on Disney Plus, will ultimately come down to where you live (or what steps you take to get access). If you have access to Disney Plus’ Canadian lineup of films and shows, you should be perfectly able to watch Deadpool and Deadpool 2. For those outside of Canada, however, they have to look into alternative means to watch Deadpool on Disney Plus.

Why is Deadpool not on Disney Plus?
As far as the United States version of Disney Plus goes, the bad news is that Deadpool is simply not available to watch as part of that country’s catalog goes. The reason why is that Disney, at least for its United States catalog, wanted to keep the offerings no worse than a PG13 rating, so the service can advertise itself as a child-safe brand. So if you like more “mature” content, Disney Plus may not be a great choice for you.

While the US Disney Plus does not make it available, Canadian Disney Plus does, in addition to many other R-rated movies. Why Disney Plus allows R-rated content in Canada may seem a little mystifying, but there is actually a very good reason for it. In the United States, Disney’s R-rated catalog is made available through the streaming service Hulu. However, Hulu is not available in Canada, and as a result, Disney likely put their catalog on Disney Plus so that it would be made available somehow.
How can I watch Deadpool on stream?
If you want to watch Deadpool on a streaming service, you have multiple options at your disposal. The first one is to look into Hulu, which will give you access to Disney’s R-rated catalog (at least most of it anyway). The next option, if you don’t want to subscribe to another service, is to get a virtual private network (VPN) in order to get access to another region’s version of Disney Plus.
As mentioned, Canada has Deadpool on its Disney Plus catalog, and you can use a VPN in order to mask what region you are actually in. This is done by choosing an IP address of a different region — in this case, Canada — in order to get access to what that region has on offer. The issue with doing this is that a good VPN is probably going to be approximately the same cost as a Hulu subscription.
Whether to get a Hulu subscription or a VPN to watch Deadpool will ultimately come down to whether there are other things you want to do with them. A VPN is a good tool for privacy that people should consider, while Hulu has a lot of shows and movies that you may not be able to get access to otherwise. There are free VPNs available, but as they say, you get what you pay for.
Why are adult-rated TV shows allowed on Disney Plus?
Originally, Netflix was one of the primary companies behind the creation of Disney TV shows, but once Disney decided to produce their own content, Disney ceased giving licensing rights to Netflix. Eventually, the licenses they did give them ran out, and at that point, Disney Plus took on the series. These series include Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and more. One thing that is kind of confusing, however, is the fact that several of these shows are just as inappropriate for children as Deadpool is.
Figuring out why these shows are allowed and not Deadpool isn’t the easiest thing, as Disney has not commented on the double standard. However, if we were to speculate, we could speculate that since Deadpool is a part of Fox’s Marvel franchises (Deadpool, X-Men, Fantastic Four), there is less of a connection between it and Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Though, a lot of people think that these franchises should be integrated, down to Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the titular Deadpool.
Meanwhile, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, The Punisher, Iron Fist, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., etc. are all connected to the MCU, especially the latter, and to varying degrees. For example, Jessica Jones deals at one point with a woman who lost a loved one in the battle of New York, as depicted in The Avengers. A more recent, more significant appearance, however, is Daredevil, who appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and created a greater connection between the shows and films.
Are there child-safe settings to prevent my children from viewing content like Deadpool on Disney Plus?
Disney Plus has tools put in place to help ensure that parents can control the kind of content their children watch. Disney Plus allows for multiple users on one account, and one control allows parents to limit the content available to each user by age rating (for example, a person could be only allowed to watch nothing higher than PG). This prevents not only the viewing of disallowed content, but hides it altogether.
You can also set a profile pin, which would prevent any user without the pin from changing the age rating for a profile. Additionally, a kids’ profile can be created, which limits it to only family-friendly content, and can be set up to restrict the user(s) from navigating away from this profile.
