One of the most frequently asked questions we receive in regards to Apple’s Airpods is, can you connect the Airpods without the case?
A case is needed for the initial connection from your Airpods to your device, however, if you have previously paired your Airpods to your device the connection will still be present until unpaired & thus will not need a case to pair to your device.
Let’s take a look at this in more detail by looking at the capabilities & limitations of the Airpods without the case.
Can You Connect AirPods Without the Case?
If your AirPods have already been paired with your device before and you have not unpaired it from your device then your Airpods can & will connect to your device automatically. However, if this is a new device or you have unpaired your device then you will need the case for the initial pairing process.
The Airpods case has simply does two things, it charges your Airpods & is in charge of the initial pairing process. It does this with the button located in the back of the Airpods case. That button is in charge of resetting your Airpods, reconnecting your Airpods to an Apple device, & connecting to an Android device manually via Bluetooth.
Can You Connect Airpods With A Different Case?
Yes, connecting your Airpods with a different case is possible and is quite simple.
To connect your Airpods with a different case simply place the Airpods in the case hold the setup button until it resets the Airpods. Then simply sync them with your device and it will be good to go!
The case can be purchased separately at Apple’s official store. It will however set you back $79 but unfortunately, there is no way around not having the case.
Can You Connect AirPods When the Case is Dead?
Yes, you will still be able to use & connect your Airpods if the case is dead if the Airpods themselves are charged & if you have already paired your Airpods with your device before. However, if this is a new device then you will not be able to connect your Airpods to the device until your case is charged.
Can You Charge Airpod Without The Case?
No, unfortunately, you will not be able to charge your Airpods without the case. However, if you have lost your case, you will be able to purchase a new case separately & will be able to easily pair it with your existing Airpods by placing your Airpods in the case and holding the button on the back to reset your Airpods.
1. Can You Track a Lost Airpods Case?
The only way you will be able to track your Airpods case is by using Tile. Tile is a slim device that you can attach to your Airpods case which will allow you to detect the location of your case through the App.
2. Can You Track Lost Airpods
Yes, tracking your lost Airpods is fairly simple you will be able to track it with the “Find MY iPhone” App”. Simply log in to the App select your device and then you will be presented with the location of your device as well as the option to transmit sound from each Airpods separately allowing you to find each pair more effectively.
3. If I lost my AirPods charging case will Apple provide me with a new one for free?
Unfortunately no, Apple states that if you lose your Airpods case you will be charged a fee for the replacement. The Apple Limited Warranty covers a defective battery & does not cover wear from normal use nor will it cover losing your case.
So there you have it, the case is only required if you are connecting to a new device or you have unpaired your device. However, if you have previously paired your Airpods to your device it will simply connect once you place your Airpods on your ears. Additionally, if you have lost your Airpods case you will be able to easily connect your Airpods to a different case by placing them in the case and holding the reset button.
