There are plenty of great streaming services, but arguably one of the best out there has got to be HBO Max. HBO Max is filled with both quality original programming and the classics you’ve come to love, and this keeps subscribers coming back for more.
HBO Max is available on a wide variety of platforms, ranging from computers, smartphones, gaming consoles, and even televisions. But why is HBO Max not on LG TV?
One thing that people may be confused by with HBO Max on LG TV is that some users report being able to watch it, while others cannot. The reason why is because there are only certain models that have the device capabilities to be able to play HBO Max. Specifically, the only LG TVs that have the ability to download and open HBOX Max are those released starting from 2018. Additionally, the only LG TVs that can download and open HBO Max are webOS 4.0 or better.

If you have an LG TV and cannot find HBO Max among your LG TV’s selection of apps, this may mean that your LG TV is simply not capable of running the HBO Max app. This is because certain models of LG TVs do not have the capacity to run the app. But how do you tell whether your LG TV is even capable?
Well, the best thing to do for this would be to check when your LG TV was originally released. If you want to use HBO Max on your LG TV, the TV needs to have been released no earlier than 2018. Additionally, if you want to download and open HBO Max, the operating system needs to be webOS 4.0 or better.
Why doesn’t HBO Max work on my compatible LG TV?
Even if you do have an LG TV that fits all the requirements, that does not necessarily mean that HBO Max will work properly. You may have the app downloaded, but you are experiencing issues getting the HBO Max app to launch.
Or even if you can, it may crash after a while. If this occurs, the first thing you should try is check if there are any updates available for the HBO Max app. To do this, open the LG Content Store on the LG TV, and then select ‘Apps’. Next, select ‘My Apps’, find HBO Max in the list, and select ‘Update’.
This should manage to fix the issue for some of the people going through it. However, if that does not solve it, another solution would be to uninstall the app altogether.
Once you have uninstalled the HBO Max app, you can go to the LG Content Store and into the ‘Apps’ section again. Here, search for HBO Max, and download it.
This could also help fix the issue. Another possible cause of this problem is if your Internet connection is struggling. A poor Internet connection may also be causing HBO Max to stream very slowly, or possibly not even stream video at all. To test the quality of your Internet connection, you can do a Google search for ‘Internet speed test’.
When you do, you will see an option to test your Internet speed on the Google search page. This test will show you both the quality of your upload and download speed. After the test is finished, it will tell you how fast your connection is. In order to stream on HBO Max, you need to have, at minimum, a download speed of 5 Mbps. If you want to stream in 4K, however, it is recommended that you have a download speed of 50 Mbps.
Another way to try to make HBO Max work is to first sign out of HBO Max. Once you have done that, unplug your LG TV, and wait 20 seconds. Plug the TV back in, and once it powers on, reopen the HBO Max app again. Sign in, and see if that fixes things. Your LG TV may also need an update, which could affect HBO Max as well as other apps on the TV.
To initiate the update, push the Settings button on your LG TV remote. Select ‘All Settings’, and then select ‘General’. From here, select ‘About This TV’, and then ‘Check for Updates’. If there is an update to be downloaded, follow the steps detailed on this page.
How much does HBO Max cost?
HBO Max has multiple subscription tiers, with the cheapest tier being the ad-supported $9.99 one. However, if you don’t want to watch ads while watching HBO Max, you can pay a total of $14.99 a month instead.
However, while this is going to be the best option for most people, some have other ways to get HBO Max. For example, if you have a participating cable provider that supports HBO, you can get access to HBO Max by signing in with the email address tied to your cable provider. In addition to these basic monthly fees, you can also get HBO Max through another streaming service, such as Hulu.
Is HBO Max worth the cost of admission?
This question does not really have a right or wrong answer, and ultimately comes down to figuring out what you even want out of a streaming service. HBO Max, as discussed, has a solid mixture of both original programming and content from other sources. Some of the most popular shows out there were released on HBO.
These include Game of Thrones, The Wire, Band of Brothers, Six Feet Under, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and so much more. And while Dexter kind of fell apart in the latter part of the series, this show is still worth a watch – at least for the first four seasons, anyway.
