Turtle Beach Stealth 600 vs. Stealth 700: Which Headset Should you Buy?

Every time there is a new generation of consoles on the market, it is a good idea to review all peripheral accessories to see which works best with the new releases. Turtle Beach has met the challenge with its own second generation of headsets , featuring the Stealth 600 and Stealth 700 models. Thankfully, Turtle Beach took all the best parts of their previous products and improved upon them tremendously.

These devices are especially sought after because they are wireless. That means they never require any type of particular plug or a USB adapter to connect to consoles. Instead, they simply connect directly. All you need to do to connect the headsets is press the “on” button.

However, which of these models, the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 or 700, is better for their purpose? It will all depend on what you are looking for in a headset, of course. But, as an avid gamer, I can share with you my true opinion, having used them both.

Honestly, the best headset of these two to purchase is the Stealth 700. Though it does cost a bit more, you get what you pay for. It offers greater comfort and durability than the Stealth 600, plus a longer battery life and much better features.

There are several great features that both of these devices possess, but the fact remains that you get much more bang for your buck by purchasing the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 headset. Let’s review these products in depth and see if you agree.

1. Why is the Stealth 700 the Best Choice?

Well, it just has so much more to offer than the Turtle Beach Stealth 600, and pretty much all comparable competitors. Now, if you want to sacrifice a bit of luxury and a few features to save some money, then, by all means, stick with the Stealth 600. It is, in essence, a budget model of the Stealth 700, and a great component in its own right. That said, it isn’t the best headset available, and certainly not the best of the two we are comparing at the moment.

If you have a bit more money to spend, it only makes sense that you would purchase the far superior Turtle Beach Stealth 700. For only an additional $50 investment, you will be treated to multiple bonus features and improvements over the Stealth 600.

The $145.95 Stealth 700 is an impressive upgrade from the $99.95 Stealth 600, with higher-quality materials used, as well as a longer battery life. It is much sturdier and more durable in build, and it still has a much more snug fit than the Stealth 600. Not to mention, the difference in sound quality is amazing. The Stealth 700 may not be flawless, but it leaves the Stealth 600 in the dust.

2. Which Headset has Better Build Quality?

There is no contest. The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 is not exactly indestructible, but it is not as fragile as the Stealth 600. It is tough, but not in a way that makes it heavy. It is also much more comfortable for long-term extended wear during marathon gaming. And, its leather cloaked exterior appears classier than the less expensive option, as well.

When you engage in long-term gameplay, whether you are playing with friends, or at a gaming center, one thing that enhances the experience is comfort. The headband and ear pad materials of the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 certainly have you covered, keeping you cozy as you play, so your focus stays where it needs to be.

The metal headband is covered with bonded, synthetic leather around a foam cushion, for optimal wear. It is larger than the Stealth 600, but it fits more comfortably on most players.

The Stealth 700’s ear pads are also cushioned with foam and covered with mesh fabric. This cushioning and the synthetic leather of the outside also allow the Stealth 700 to form a tighter seal around the ears, providing you with higher sound quality. This is probably due to the memory foam ear cushions provided, which are infused with cooling gel and made by Aerofit. These ear cups are also more spacious than those of the Stealth 600, which gives the wearer additional comfort and breathing room.

Of course, the leather incorporated into the Stealth 700’s design gives it much more durability. This is just a part of the better build quality of the product compared to the Stealth 600. After all, the two models really can’t even be compared.

The Stealth 600 is created from plastic that is cheap in appearance and not very strong in texture. The ear pads are also covered in a mesh material, but the interior padding is thin and not quite comfortable.

While the ear cups of each model swivel flat on the gamer’s shoulders, due to their similar base design, the superior build quality of the Stealth 700 model is what makes it the optimum choice when it comes to comfort. And, even though the ear pads are filled with cushioning, they fit snugly around your ears and are very light compared to what it looks like you are carrying. At 380 grams, it could be a bit lighter overall, but many have the opinion that the Stealth 700 is Turtle Beach’s most comfortable headset yet.

3. Which Headset has Better Features?

Well, the answer to this question depends on what is most important to you as a wearer. The models share a decent number of features and specs in common, though where they differ is where the Stealth 700 once again stands out. But, they do share more than a few traits.

Each of these second-generation Turtle Beach models has shocked the gamer community with a new, streamlined look that is an obvious improvement on earlier headset models. There has been a redesign where the microphone can now fold up inside the headset, which looks a bit neater when the device is not in use. Also, now the ear cups appear symmetrical, almost as if they are two halves of a whole.

That said, this new design is where most of the similarities end. The Stealth 700 has several additional features and is built completely differently from the Stealth 600.

While both models have microphone monitoring, the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 also features active noise cancellation and Bluetooth compatibility, two additional functions that put it head and shoulders above the Stealth 600.

With Bluetooth compatibility, you can use the Stealth 700 easily with any device that is Bluetooth enabled, including smartphones and PCs, without requiring the use of an adapter. This connection to your other devices also means that you can answer phone calls or listen to your own personal music while you are gaming.

The noise cancellation feature will effectively silence any noise outside of the headset by producing what is known as “blank noise.” This noise gate is superior at drowning out all distracting sounds. You will hear nothing but the voices of other players and not what is going on in the background.

The Stealth 700 also includes a comprehensive control scheme that is far superior to comparable devices in its price range.

4. Which Headset has Better Sound?

The Turtle Beach Stealth 600 and Stealth 700 do have some crucial features in common. For instance, they both have decent sound quality, and the listening experiences of both models are equally enhanced by Turtle Beach’s 50 mm drivers. This is even better if you have Dolby Atmos or Windows Sonic spatial sound turned on.

That all said, the Stealth 700 honestly just has much better sound quality than the Stealth 600. Its ear cups have been especially redesigned for a much larger soundscape. The bass is heard in much richer and deeper tones and mids and highs are perfectly crisp and clear. But, Turtle Beach has always been known for its ability to capture the finer pieces of audio with near perfection, so it is not surprising that the Stealth 700 excels in this category.

However, the sound provided by the Stealth 600 model was far less impressive. There were no booming sounds, but, instead, thinner, tinnier audio in its place. Even with the so-called “superhuman hearing” feature turned on, it can be difficult to hear footsteps, directional gunfire, and reloads, which are commonly heard on better devices, like the Stealth 700.

This certainly can make a distinct difference depending on the game you are playing. There may be low-level growling warning you of a possible attack, but you can’t be sure if you are hearing it correctly. Gunshots also had a flat sound compared to the punchy audio heard when wearing the Stealth 700.

When it comes to speaking, each headset also has a flip-up microphone that works incredibly well, so you never have to worry that your in-game voice chat is mumbled or goes unheard. However, the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 does actually have a slightly superior boom microphone that delivers more consistent audio.

And, even though the microphone, with the redesign, is quite stylish, it is certainly just as functional. The tiny mic boom on both the Stealth 600 and Stealth 700 can be adjusted in such a way that it is positioned closer to your mouth. It can easily be flipped to mute, lying flat and nearly invisible, and it has mic monitoring and independent chat volume. This means the loudness can be adjusted so no one is reduced to screaming at one another, as can happen. But, if yelling still occurs, other players can simply turn down the volume on their headsets.

5. Which Headset has a Longer Battery Life?

Not surprisingly, the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 beats the Stealth 600 once again. When it comes to how long each model will hold a charge, the Stealth 600 clocks in at a measly 15 hours, while the Stealth 700 can last up to 20 straight hours. Both are arguably great for use throughout marathon gaming, especially the Stealth 700, which holds a charge for nearly a full day.

Just keep in mind that if you are using the Stealth 700 for any of its additional features, you will drain the battery faster. However, each model is fast-charging when the correct power adapter is used in conjunction with a USB-C cord.

In conclusion, the only real advantage that you will get from settling on the Stealth 600 model headset is saving money, since it is less expensive. If you truly believe that the extra features and sturdier build are worth an extra $50, then it is really hard not to admit that the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 is the better of the two models compared here.

Of course, there are times when money is a genuine concern, and a gamer wants to purchase a decent headset that doesn’t break the bank. And, in that case, the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 is a fantastic option . There isn’t really anything wrong with the model for its reasonable price. The Stealth 700 is simply a better model overall. When you consider how many additional features you are getting for only $50 more, as well as better durability, comfort, and sound quality, the better model is certainly obvious. The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 is a decently priced headset with console variants for Xbox and Playstation, and it has premium features that any gamer would appreciate.
