iPhone 12 Pro Max not Charging

Smartphones are a key device in people’s day-to-day lives, and they are only becoming increasingly so. As such, it can be pretty frustrating if your smartphone is not working as it normally should. One example of this is with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which was released back in 2020. In particular, some users have reported having issues with their iPhone 12 Pro Max not charging. But why might it not be working?

There are a number of reasons why your iPhone 12 Pro Max may not be charging properly, and some of these reasons are going to be more stressful than others. For example, there may be an issue with the charging device you are using. You can often tell if a cable is damaged based on exterior damage, such as exposed wiring, or whether the actual plug is bent. You can also test other compatible cords, assuming you have access to one. However, if there is an issue with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, this could be more complicated to solve.

What other kinds of issues might cause an iPhone 12 Pro Max to stop charging though? And what can be done to fix them?

iPhone 12 Pro Max not Charging

If your iPhone 12 Pro Max is not charging properly, the first thing you should check is whether there is something going wrong with the charging device. This is something that is relatively easy to verify, as if it is not working, you can plug it into other devices to see if the problem persists. If it is the charger that is the problem, this is a relatively good outcome, as this means you can get the problem fixed by simply getting a new charger. This can be done by either getting a replacement from Apple if the charger is defective, or also simply buying a new cord if it is out of warranty, or if the problem was caused by user error.

If you have a damaged charger cord for your iPhone 12 Pro Max, it is not advisable that you continue using it, even if it is still charging your iPhone. This cord could potentially cause damage to your iPhone or the outlet it is plugged into. Thus, try to get a new, fully working cord as soon as possible.

However, if you verify that the cord itself appears to be working, the next step would be to check to see that the wall outlet plug the cable may be plugged into also works. Thus, make sure to try it with a different cord to see if the brick is still functioning properly. If even this is working, however, that may indicate that the problem may be with your iPhone 12 Pro Max. If at all possible, try to find an alternate way to see if you can charge your iPhone, such as a spare Lightning cable.

If your iPhone 12 Pro Max itself appears to be the problem with why it is not charging properly, this may mean that the battery in the device is faulty. Some users of the iPhone 12 Pro Max have even reported that the device appears to drain the battery’s maximum capacity far faster than an iPhone normally should. As with any battery-powered device, your iPhone 12 Pro Max’s battery will degrade over time. Normally, the battery should lose no more than one percent of its total charge after 25 charges. If it is losing more than that after only that many charges, this may suggest that the battery is defective.

What do I do if my iPhone 12 Pro Max needs to be repaired?

If you believe that your iPhone 12 Pro Max is damaged, the first thing to figure out is exactly what caused the damage. This is because getting a device repaired may be somewhat costly if the damage was not the fault of the manufacturer in any way. While your iPhone 12 Pro Max comes with a limited warranty, they make that limitation clear: the warranty only covers defects and does not cover damage that is not Apple’s fault.

In order to get this kind of damage covered, you would have to get an extended warranty that covers accidental damage, like falls. A warranty like this is going to be an extra expenditure, but there is a solid chance that it would be a worthwhile price to pay. In either case, the device still needs to have these damages occur within the timeframe of the warranty in order for it to either be repaired or replaced, so don’t drag your heels on setting up said repair or replacement.

If you believe that your iPhone 12 Pro Max is damaged, either because of an accident, be sure to get it repaired or replaced by whatever method is available. If it’s within the time span of the warranty and the damage can be shown to be covered by the warranty, set that up with the warranty issuer as soon as possible (usually Apple). If it is not covered by a warranty, however, you may still be able to get it repaired for a lower price than it would cost to buy a new or even pre-owned iPhone 12 Pro Max. You will be without your phone for a bit, but it’ll be worth it to have a working phone again.

What might cause my iPhone 12 Pro Max to not charge?

If your iPhone 12 Pro Max is no longer capable of holding a charge, there are multiple potential reasons, one being that the battery has simply died. As discussed above, batteries only have so long before they die. Yet, with the iPhone 12 Pro Max being so relatively new, it is highly unlikely that normal use would cause the battery to be completely drained. More likely, either a defect is affecting your phone, or some kind of damage caused the battery to break. This could be a fall or a strong impact, but there could also be water damage.
