How Do You Use Your Razer 7.1 Surround Sound Software?

You don’t need anything but a PC and internet access to download Razer 7.1 surround sound because it is free. However, there is a Pro version for a small fee. This version has more features, such as detailed calibration and audio configuration.

Regardless of which version you pick, all you need to do is go to the Razer website and hit the download button. This triggers the installer; depending on your settings, the installer may pop up automatically. Once the installer is opened, click “install,” and wait a few minutes for the software to install. After installation, open the app if it doesn’t automatically open.

When you open the app the first time, you’ll need to enter a Razer ID and an activation code. Currently, the activation code is only included in certain Razer gaming stereo headphones. Without an activation code, you cannot use the Razer 7.1 surround sound.

How Do You Make the Razer 7.1 Surround Sound Your Default?

You can use your 7.1 surround sound as your default, but you may need to change your settings. To do this, open the system settings, and choose the “Sound” option from the menu. The first option on this page should be the output device.

You can choose any output that is connected to the PC, including the Razer software. To use the Razer 7.1 software, choose the “Speakers (7.1 Surround Sound)” as the output device. Next, open the Razer 7.1 surround sound app, and choose the appropriate output device. Now, whenever you use the headphones, they should automatically use surround sound.

What Headsets Come With the Activation Code?

Only a handful of headsets come with an activation code for Razer 7.1 surround sound. This includes:

  • Razer Barracuda X (2022)
  • Razer Barracuda X
  • Razer Base Station V2 Chrome
  • Razer BlackShark V2 X
  • Razer Kaira X
  • Razer Kraken
  • Razer Kraken X
  • Razer Kraken V3 X

Some require you to register the product to get the activation code, and some come with a scratch card that reveals the code. As of now, Razer 7.1 surround sound does not support any non-Razer brand headphones. All these headsets are great for gaming and have built-in microphones.

Depending on the headphone, some also support other systems, such as Xbox, PlayStation, and Android devices. For this reason, if you game on multiple systems, one pair of headphones may be better than another, depending on the consoles you use.

Is Razer 7.1 Surround Sound Good for Gaming?

Razer 7.1 surround sound is ideal for gaming, and it was created by Razer, which specializes in gaming devices and software. They sell software, headsets, keyboards, mats, mice, monitors, speakers, chairs, controllers, accessories, and much more. Plus, they’ve been around since 2005, so they have the experience to make quality gaming products.

The main reason Razer 7.1 surround sound is great for gaming is because it gives you a better idea of where sounds are coming from. In a first-person shooter game, for example, it’s advantageous to hear where other players are, so you can better move, dodge, and locate other players. This makes it easier to avoid getting killed by other players, and it makes it easier for you to locate enemies.

The only problem arises if you play a game that has been encoded for stereo sound. In this case, the game doesn’t actually support surround sound, so sounds may not be as accurate, which can impact your gameplay.

How Does Razer 7.1 Surround Sound Work?

There are two types of surround sound: true surround sound and virtual surround sound. Virtual surround sound is like a home theater system. You buy multiple speakers and install them around the room to enhance the viewing experience. With headphones, true surround sound is achieved via two speakers on your headset.

Razer 7.1 surround sound uses virtual surround sound. With virtual surround sound, you only need one pair of speakers in your headset. Instead of using multiple speakers to make you feel more emersed, multiple drivers allow the headset to reproduce directional and spatial sounds.

Overall, true 7.1 surround sound has better audio quality, but virtual 7.1 surround sound is usually more affordable. Plus, the headphones are usually lighter, making them more comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Does Razer 7.1 Surround Sound Support THX?

Razer 7.1 surround sound does not support THX, but you can choose THX Spatial Audio instead of 7.1 surround sound. The THX Spatial Audio software isn’t free, but it has better quality than 7.1 surround sound. To obtain THX Spatial Audio, you simply download the software and enter your Razer ID. You can also set it to your default the same way you do with Razer 7.1 surround sound.

You’ll need to choose an audio profile. While most people use THX environment mode to help with directional awareness, competitive users may want THX competitive mode, which boosts enemy sounds and minimizes other sounds. You can play any game with THX Spatial Audio, but only some games are certified as THX Spatial Audio, such as Call of Duty: Warzone, Half-Life: Alyx, Red Dead Redemption 2, and many others.

If you want to boost your gaming experience without breaking the bank, Razer 7.1 surround sound software is a great choice. You will need to get a pair of headphones that support the app, but you will save money compared to true surround sound. For more information, find out which Razer headset is right for you.
