What is DND mode on Fitbit?

Fitbit devices have become an essential tool for many people looking to improve their health and fitness routines. With features that track activity, sleep, and heart rate, these devices provide users with valuable insights into their well-being.

One of the lesser-known but incredibly useful features of Fitbit devices is the DND (Do Not Disturb) mode.

This article will explore what DND mode is, how it differs from Sleep mode, and how to enable and customize this feature on various Fitbit models. By learning about DND mode, you can optimize your Fitbit experience and enjoy a more restful and uninterrupted sleep.

What is DND Mode on Fitbit

DND (Do Not Disturb) mode on Fitbit is a feature designed to help users minimize distractions and interruptions, particularly during sleep or when they require a period of peace and quiet.

By enabling DND mode on a Fitbit device, users can ensure that notifications, goal celebrations, and reminders to move don’t cause the watch to vibrate or the screen to turn on. Resulting in a more restful and uninterrupted sleep experience.

This feature is especially beneficial for individuals who are sensitive to interruptions or those aiming to improve their sleep quality. DND mode can be easily activated and customized, both directly on the Fitbit device and through the Fitbit app, providing users with a seamless and user-friendly experience.

Managing Specific Notifications in the Fitbit App

To activate DND mode using the Fitbit app, follow these steps:

  • Open the Fitbit app on your smartphone.
  •  Tap the profile icon in the top left corner.
  •  Select your Fitbit device from the list.
  •  Scroll down and tap “Notifications.”
  •  From here you can toggle off/on the notifications you would like to receive.

DND Mode vs. Sleep Mode

Fitbit devices offer two useful modes that help minimize distractions and improve sleep quality: DND (Do Not Disturb) mode and Sleep mode. While both modes share some similarities, they have distinct differences that make them suitable for different situations.

Do Not Disturb Mode

When the Do Not Disturb setting is enabled on your Fitbit device:

  • Notifications, goal celebrations, and reminders to move don’t cause the watch to vibrate or the screen to turn on.
  • A Do Not Disturb icon appears at the top of the screen when you swipe up to see your stats.

It’s important to note that you can’t have Do Not Disturb and Sleep mode activated simultaneously.

Sleep Mode

When the Sleep Mode setting is enabled on your Fitbit device:

  • Notifications don’t cause the watch to vibrate or the screen to turn on.
  • The screen’s brightness is set to dim.
  • Turning your wrist won’t cause the watch’s screen to turn on.
  • A Sleep Mode icon appears at the top of the screen when you swipe up to see your stats.

Sleep mode doesn’t automatically turn off unless you set a sleep mode schedule. To schedule Sleep mode to automatically turn on during specific hours, open the Settings app on your Fitbit device and tap Sleep Mode > Schedule. Sleep mode automatically turns off at the time you schedule, even if you manually turned it on.

As mentioned earlier, you can’t have Do Not Disturb and Sleep mode activated at the same time.

Which Mode to Choose

The primary difference between the two modes is that Sleep mode also dims the screen’s brightness and prevents the screen from turning on when you move your wrist. This makes Sleep mode ideal for users who are particularly sensitive to light and want to minimize disruptions during sleep.

On the other hand, if you’re not as concerned about screen brightness and simply want to avoid notifications, vibrations, and other interruptions, DND mode is the better choice. Both modes serve the purpose of reducing distractions, but their specific features cater to different user preferences and requirements.
