How to scan on an HP Deskjet 3752

You can use the HP DeskJet 3752 for scanning, printing, and copying. You can even print from it using your smartphone or tablet. But how do you get it to scan the first time?

How do I scan with my Deskjet 3752?

The “How to Scan” section applies to a computer you have that already has the HP software installed on it. This instruction also assumes that you have already plugged in and set up your printer for first-time use.

How to Scan

Just place the original that you want to scan face down on the scanner glass. Then, press the “scan” button on the printer.

Otherwise, you can open the HP scan, printing, and copy app stored on your computer or your phone (or tablet). Then, confirm you’re connected to the Internet and press the “scan” button, or you can print if you want.

If you want to scan or print using your smartphone app, make sure you have either a Wi-Fi connection or access to the Internet through an Ethernet (LAN) networking cable.

Why am I getting errors when I try to scan (or print)?

Most of these possibly pertain to both printing and scanning. Additional troubleshooting tips also apply only when you’re printing. This advice applies to Windows users, but the HP 3752 does support all operating systems, including Mac, Android and iOS.

Reason #1: Printer Not Set Up To Default

If your printer is fully connected to the network but is not scanning or printing, you perhaps did not set your HP printer as your Windows default printer.

If you set your printer as the default, your computer will automatically assign those print jobs to it. That doesn’t mean you can’t select a different one on your network to use. However, the automatic scan and print function only happens when the printer and scanner you intend to use together are linked by default.

Follow the steps you see below to set your printer as default. If that doesn’t work, it could be for another reason, as described below.

How to Set Up Printer as Default (Windows 10)

In earlier versions of Windows, you probably had to manually select a default printer. However, in Windows 10, all you need to do is let Windows choose the most recent one:

1. Go to “Start”

2. Select “Settings”

3. Choose “Devices.” Then, select the “Printers & scanners” option.

Once you reach this third step, check the box to the level of “Let Windows manage my default printer.”

4. Optional: Change your default printer.

You can select one of the printers and scanners on your list in “settings.” When you click or tap on it, you will see a “manage” button. Click on that. Then, choose the “set as default.” Option.

Reason #2: Printer Software Not Installed

Installing your printer software will make it easier for you to update your drivers. If you don’t know where to find your printer software, you can access a new copy of it from the HP support site. If it is installed, uninstall it and reinstall it again.

Reason #3: Driver Not Updated (or Not Installed)

You may have even received a message on your device saying that you have a missing, corrupt or outdated driver. However, don’t try to acquire updates from just anywhere. You have to trust the source. To begin with, visit this HP support link to learn more about how to find and update drivers for your device.

You can also use third-party driver update services. However, you need to make sure it’s not a malicious software posting as an app intended to update your devices.

Reason #4: No Internet Connection

Check the Wi-Fi signal on your devices, such as your printer, tablet or smartphone. Then, make sure your printer is on the same network.

If not, you’ll have to sign in to that network with your Wi-Fi username and password. Otherwise, you will have to connect using an Ethernet cable and print from your computer or plug in your USB cable and print.

Reason #5: Loose USB Cable

If not using cloud (Internet) printing tools, check the USB connection from your computer and your printer ends. Keep in mind, however, that you will need to complete the first-time setup instructions before connecting via USB.

Why won’t my HP 3572 print?

If you already took the steps to set the printer you want to use as the default one, you may have to take additional steps. If it’s not printing, check the cartridge, restart your printer and computer, or cancel print jobs and start over.

Printing Troubleshooting Tips:

1. Check your ink cartridge.

New HP printers easily display the ink level or ink problem on the front screen of the HP printer. Refer to the manual for your specific printer to learn how to check the ink or toner levels for your printer.

2. Unfreeze your print queue.

It’s frustrating when you know your printer is on, and you know you pressed “print,” and nothing happens. Sometimes, all you need to do is cancel all the print jobs. Then, turn off your printer and restart your computer and your printer.

You also might need to check if you have a paper jam or are out of ink. If your printer doesn’t have paper stuck in it or you already have link, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software.

3. Install or reinstall the printer software.

If you see the HP all-in-one software already installed on your device, right-click on it from your computer and then choose the “uninstall” option. Once that’s done, reinstall it.

If trying to use the smart device app, press and hold, press the “uninstall” option and wait until that installation is complete. Then, reinstall it. If you don’t have it on your device, go to the HP website to install it.

4. Update printer drivers.

When your HP Deskjet printer fails to scan, installing new drivers usually helps. However, you may not know how to find the correct drivers. It’s usually best to work with the HP software you have, which should automatically update your device for printer and scanner usage.

How do I download my device’s driver?

Please refer to the HP support manual to ensure that you choose the right HP Deskjet 3752 drivers for your operating system.

How do I Set up my HP 3752 on a Mac?

The steps for a MAC are similar to the ones for Windows because this printer supports both operating systems. When a notification appears on your Mac prompting the installer to select printer connection options, select USB to proceed and complete the setup.

First, plug one end of the power cord into the back of the printer and the other end into a wall outlet, and turn on the printer. Then right-click on the printer icon and select the default printer if no default selection has been made.
